My interest in nature photography began more than 30 years ago when I spent summers hiking and backpacking in the National Parks of the U.S. My travel and nature photography interests expanded as I participated with Earthwatch Institute, volunteering in research projects in Kenya, Bolivia, Brazil and Costa Rica. It was Kenya that won my heart, though, and I try to return each year, leading photographic safaris to this amazing country. Other photographic safaris have taken me to Panama, Belize, and Trinidad and Tobago.
After many years in public education, I retired early so that I could concentrate on my photography full-time. Photography is a way for me to learn and understand more about the world around me and share my view with others. I've always loved domestic animals as well as animals in the wild and recently have added pet portraits to my repertoire.
I'm a member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), and a field contributor for Nature Photographer magazine. Recent publication credits include "n - the magazine of Naples", Lee magazine, Earthwatch Institute, the Center for Rescue of Endangered Species of Trinidad and Tobago (CRESTT), and “On Safari” by David Anderson. My images have appeared in the Showcase journal of the NANPA Showcase journal, "Expressions" in 2006 and 2009. In addition to many juried awards, I was a semi-finalist in the Nature's Best Windland Smith Rice International Photography Competition in 2009. In August 2007, I was awarded the "eNny Award for Photography" by n - the Magazine of Naples.
